Kristeligt Dagblad: “Iteras is the engine of our subscription business.”

 

When Kristeligt Dagblad needed to replace their old subscription management system, they were facing one of the most far-reaching changes in a modern media business. The previous system was robust, but no longer fi t for purpose, and increasingly relied on manual adjustments and temporary workarounds to function alongside the newspaper’s other digital systems.

“We constantly had to invent new solutions to make the system work with our technology,” says Tue Boserup, Commercial Director at Kristeligt Dagblad. That led the national newspaper to Iteras.

Functionality and partnership

Iteras’ strong presence in the Danish market was an important factor. Danish distribution, payment fl ows and the infrastructure around physical newspaper delivery are areas Kristeligt Dagblad did not want to build themselves.

But the choice was also about culture. “We quickly got the sense that Iteras understood our way of seeing the world,” says Tue Boserup. “We share a focus on the subscriber and their experience. It matters a great deal that we’re not talking past each other.”

At the same time, Iteras struck the balance the newspaper was looking for: an organisation with fl exibility and close collaboration, but also with suffi cient capacity to drive ongoing development.

A signifi cant technological shift

The transition to Iteras gave Kristeligt Dagblad access to modern functionality such as real-time updates, a fully API-based setup and a cloud solution that removes the need for local infrastructure.

“When we activate a subscription, we can see the change immediately. That makes a huge difference for both our subscribers and our operations,” says Tue Boserup.

“We didn’t lose momentum. We were able to continue selling and delivering the newspaper without interruptions, so our subscribers received their paper as usual.”

Migration through iterations

The data transfer was handled through a series of test migrations, during which both Iteras and Kristeligt Dagblad’s team continuously adjusted the data model.

“You shouldn’t underestimate the task. Changing subscription management systems is a major undertaking,” says Tue. “But our process worked well because we learned more with each iteration.”

Iteras’ sparring became a central part of the project. Rather than simply recreating the old setup, Iteras challenged their approach in several areas and proposed changes that better supported the newspaper’s goals.

Data migration without loss of momentum

The actual transition was completed without the downtime many fear when changing systems. From day one, the national newspaper was able to sell, distribute and provide access to the newspaper.

Despite the complexity of the system change, operations remained stable throughout the implementation period. “We didn’t lose momentum. We were able to continue selling and delivering the newspaper without interruptions, so our subscribers received their paper as usual.”

Iteras as the newspaper’s engine

Today, Iteras has become the very engine of Kristeligt Dagblad’s subscription business. “Other functions in the car are the wheels, the steering wheel and the seat. But the engine that drives the entire subscription business – that’s Iteras,” says Tue Boserup Jacobsen.

He also emphasises that the collaboration is just as important as the technology: “It’s a partnership, not just a supplier.”
